The newspapers were full of the story about the refugees who had been picked up by the ship called the "Tampa", and the Australian Government's refusal to allow it to drop them at an Australian Port. "Tampa" is a homonym for "Tamper", and "Tamper is the name of a completely different vehicle: a railway vehicle. This connection was enough to make this story crystallize in my head. It was distributed amongst railway people at the time.
